## The Biblical Worldview of Honesty and Integrity

*Part 8 of 12: A Biblical Worldview of Money and Wealth*

**

“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”— Luke 16:10
Honesty and integrity are often spoken of together, but they are not the same thing. Honesty is telling the truth in a given moment. Integrity is being whole: our actions match our convictions in every situation, including when no one is watching. A person can be honest only after being caught, but no one can have integrity without honesty as its foundation.

### Honesty Is Love in Action

Jesus said the second greatest commandment is to love our neighbor. Matthew 22:39** says, *“And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”* To deceive someone about money is to put ourselves ahead of them, which is the opposite of love. This is why we say that we are not financial advisors who happen to be Christians; we are Christians who happen to be financial advisors.

### **God’s Standard for the Marketplace**

Scripture speaks plainly about business dealings. **Proverbs 11:1** declares, *“A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.”* Rigged scales then are hidden fees, misleading claims, and outright fraud today. God’s standard has not changed: accuracy, fairness, and transparency. Psalm 15 describes the person who dwells with God as one *“who swears to his own hurt and does not change.”* That is integrity under pressure, keeping our word when it costs us.

### **The Fruit of Integrity**

**Proverbs 10:9** teaches, *“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”* Over many decades of serving families, we have watched this prove true. Dishonesty eventually surfaces, one lie demands another, and trust once broken is hard to rebuild. Integrity brings trust, a good name, a clear conscience, and a legacy worth leaving. These are not formulas for wealth, but marks of a life that honors God.

### **Living It Out**

Honesty touches every part of our financial lives. It shapes how we earn, representing ourselves and our work truthfully. It shapes how we manage, staying open with our spouse, our family, and our advisor, since financial secrets in a household are a warning sign. It reaches our taxes and our giving, which we do sincerely and not for appearances.

Luke 16:10 shows the pattern: faithfulness in little is the road to being trusted with much. Because everything we hold belongs to God, handling it with honesty and integrity honors the true Owner. Ask yourself this week: would I want someone to prove faithful with a small amount before I trusted them with a large one? God asks the same of us.
